I'm in the market for tig/mig gas hose it seems that the standard size is 1/4 ID but i've also read here http://www.netwelding.com/Why_Quarter_Inch_Hose.htm that 1/4 is unnecessary specifically for mig no mention of tig. I also see that length of the hose needs to be takin' into consideration. Does anybody recommend any certain brands that are considered to be better than others. thanks
Reply:I dedicated a new 1/4" or 3/8" (don't remember) Goodyear air hose from HF. I put regular Milton connectors on it. I did this because I have a suitcase wire feeder and I leave the cylinder in the cabinet. I don't know how long you need it."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I'm calling BS on that link. The hose is behind the solenoid. You aren't emptying the hose every time you stop a weld. You will loose the gas every time you disconnect the hose. So guys with a suitcase that may be daily. I haven't disconnected the hose on my mig machine in months. I just swap the regulator to the new tank and accept whatever little bit of air gets in there.Edit: I read to the end of the page where he'd claiming the savings is from the *big* surge at the start of the weld. Yeah a smaller hose will reduce this. It still sounds like marketing BS though.Last edited by AndyA; 09-12-2011 at 10:22 PM.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:Yeah, total BS. If your pressure is spiking that much then you have a bad regulator. They just found a way to try and sell something. |
