i was reading on the other gocart thread you saying you built a couple of yard carts. i am wanting to build one for the kids. i know absolutely nothing about them so please excuse my ignorance. you mentioned jack shafts and torque converters. i have looked at the torque converters on a couple of supply sights, but i don't know enough about what i am looking at to understand the specs. i will probably build the cart using old fourwheeler tires and a salvaged 5 or 6 hp side shaft motor.what kind of braking system do you recommend? i want it to stop when i hit the brakes.

Reply:I prefer hydraulic brakes. The MCP stuff is pretty good, used on racing stuff. For $150 I think they have a kit that will have you covered. For a cart like that, I think a Comet torque-a-verter is about the best option, about $160 if you shop around. I haven't looked at those parts for awhile, but I will see if I can scrounge up some links for ya. Keep an eye on ebay, sometimes you can find a good deal on those parts. I think the last time I priced out building a yard cart I came up with about $800 for new parts. I think that included a new motor. If you shop around and get used parts, I am sure you can do better.
