Can we still get solid oxygen for our torches that use solid fuel, and if so,  from where?
Reply:There's a blast from the past. I bought one of those when I was 16. I do some looking this weekend and let you know if I find anything.
Reply:Are these torches made by Rocketdyne or Turbonique? Lol.Seriously though, what is the fuel composed of. Also, do you have any idea of the oxidiser used? It could be something as simple as potasium nitrate.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:They were called solidox or some dern thing like that?????
Reply:A quick search revealed no sources for solidox. I did find that the sticks were potassium chlorate.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:The ones I am/was familiar with were marketed by Sears as SOLIDox. Propane torch with a solid pellet that when lit gave off oxygen. It burned slowly, was a pain to get going and had a very short shelf life. A spin off of the several flash thermal welding processes. In those processes there is generally a compound that when burned releases excess oxygen that in turn provides the needed oxygen to fast feed the rest of the welding process.Interestingly enough if you do searches for solidox pellets you will find enough sites to get you on several lists of "those that need watched". Probably not readily available in the US anymore along with many other simple items that can be used in those special recipes.
Reply:My first torch set up was one of those solidox torches.  I used it once.  David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Since the internet is full of recepies to make bombs with these pellets I doubt that they're made any more. I haven't found anything yet. Some aircraft and submarines use this chemical to generate oxygen for emergency use but if you could even get somebody to sell you an oxygen generator you could go buy a 20 cubic foot oxygen tank and a regulator cheaper and it would last much longer.
