Has any one out there used the Fleetweld rods? I got my Lincoln product Catalogue yesterday and saw them in there and was wondering if they would be better than my weldit rods that i get at my local Atwoods.American By Birth, Texan By The Grace Of God.I Guess I just Don't Belong Without A Jukebox and A Country Song.Member Of the American Honky Tonk Bar AssotiationSEMPER FI
Reply:I have used lincoln fleetweld rods for years.  Fleetweld 37 (6013) Fleetweld 47 (7014) Fleetweld 180 (6011)   In my 7018's I have gone to Murex which is made by lincoln but burns A LOT better in my opinion than the standard lincoln 7018 I have always like them, but I also learned to weld with them so its what I am used to.  I will say I have never run "weldit" rods before but I try to stay away from the off brands myself.  Best thing I can say is get some and try them.  See what ya think.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:IMO, if it's anything like "weldit's" mig wire, it's junk.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
Reply:I just bought a 50# box of fleetweld 47 in 1/8" and it burns fine, I just wish it came in the plastic weldit containers

Reply:The Lincoln bros. pioneered arc welding and have learned a lot since then, you get quality rods from them.
Reply:First Weldit is made by Hobart which is owned by the same company as Miller so.Thank yall for the info on the rods, i thought i might go against the grain and try another rod for a change.American By Birth, Texan By The Grace Of God.I Guess I just Don't Belong Without A Jukebox and A Country Song.Member Of the American Honky Tonk Bar AssotiationSEMPER FI
Reply:Brandon, On my portable machine the excaliburs are bad about sticking and losing the arc when running out of position not to mention it seems that about 1 out of every five I grab has the flux beat off the end.  (That could be just the way they have been handled.)  The murex I get seems to run smoother in my opinion, and clean easier.  I will say that on my shop machines I do not notice much of a difference between the two.   I do realize that every machine made will burn a rod differently so my opinion is likely to change from machine to machine.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Yea, I deal exclusively with airgas.  I read alot of bad news about airgas on here, but the local airgas I deal with here is the best all around welding supplier I have ever used in both price and dependability.  However I find it varies from store to store.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Originally Posted by brandon75173Called locally to a fairly large welding supply house and they had murex 7014 and 7024 in stock.  Waiting for another shipment of the 7018 to arrive toward the end of the week.  Do you guys have an airgas near by?  I bet they would have it, or could order for you.   I did alittle research and might try there 309L wire.  Always looking for excuses to try new stuff.
Reply:DeuceI believe there is an airgas in longview if memory serves me, I do know that there is a company called texair or something like that in longview that carries a very wide selection. I bought some esab rods from them and while they werent the best they were better than weldit. With my experience sometimes you cant weld it when using weldit. That being said straight hobart rods arent bad, for cheap and decent I say the AMF's (American Filler Metal) are pretty good in all position.Building mudtanks and other oilfield equipment day by grueling day.---------------------------------------------------Victor preformerMillermatic 251Miller Thunderbolt 225Too many grinders and the likeGone but not forgotten Miller Bobcat 250Comming soon Lincoln Ranger 250

Reply:Anybody have thoughts on Century rods?  I fell into a deal I couldn't pass up; 10# of 5\32" 7018 for $11, shrink wrapped box still intact.  I think they work just as good as the pre-Excalibur Lincoln rods.  The next time I went back to Steel & Metal Liquidators in New Castle, Delaware I bought a box of 6011 and they worked good too.I miss the days when the LWS sold rods loose, by the pound, like the hardware store sold nails.  Now everything comes pre-packaged in blister packs.  Those were the good ol' days.Last edited by 69 chevy; 05-31-2007 at 08:12 PM.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
Reply:I use fleetwood rods at work.  I like them.  However I am not picky with welding rod.  They all run the same to me.
Reply:yes there is an airgas in longview.
Reply:There was a time that lincoln fleetweld rods were just about the only rods you could buy in the town I grew up in. If they weren't any good 1/2 of the would I knew then would have fallen apart by now.
Reply:I was up at Home Depot in Longview the other day and happened to go to the back of the tool isle and saw that they sell Lincoln Welding Rods I dont know why i never noticed that.American By Birth, Texan By The Grace Of God.I Guess I just Don't Belong Without A Jukebox and A Country Song.Member Of the American Honky Tonk Bar AssotiationSEMPER FI
