I built another smoker

Computer geek son was home this weekend and it took him about two minutes to figure out my picture posting problem. So here are some pictures of the latest project.Every since I built the first of these my son-in-law has been making noises about wanting one. I finally got busy and built this. This picture is the top welded in using fluxcore wire and a Weld Pac 100 before I ground it out. One third of the wire in the bead, one third on the metal as spatter, and one third on me and the ground. It's finished and ground smooth, then shined up with a flap wheel.The inside while it is nice and clean.Finished up with a coat of high heat paint. We broke it in last Sunday with a brisket and two racks of ribs. Um, um, good.

Reply:It's gas. I didn't take a picture but I built a couple of smoker boxes from 12 ga. to hold wet wood chips. Just switch them out.The legs are adjustable. I welded 5/8" nuts in the rod boxes and 3/4" flat washers on the bolts for feet. I welded old Baird back pressure valve seats on the  sucker rods. The shiny balls on the pipe cover and the handles are the balls for those seats. Took at least as long to build the legs as it did the rest of the thing.Oreo wasn't here to check this one out. He's been gone for almost a month. I'm afraid a coyote had him for a snack.

Reply:I don't know why you always complain about the little flux core welder  You do a great job with it.  I think it's the handiest thing there is to do corners where burnthrough might be a problem.  Mine mostly gets used when capping tubing.  Looks great!I hope Oreo shows up at the back door one day, but I'm afraid maybe you're right.  That cat didn't look like a wanderer.  Always somewhere to be seen in your shop photos.  It's a real shame.If you're suffering the same heat wave we are over here, it's probably been rough to do the work.  Sun up to about 11AM, and I put up the tools if I have the luxury to.  Seems the hotter it gets, the slower I work, so there's no point in continuing unless it's an emergency breakdown.Shut down at noon, head to town, and go to the grocery store, and climb into the cold meat case.  WORKS FOR ME!!  (Just tell 'em you're shoppin' for ribs)"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Sam, the only reason I keep the damn thing is because it is so handy.  It's just that I hate having to clean up the mess it makes. Went from a huge 450 amp Miller running solid wire and Weldmix with no spatter when I retired to this tinker toy.  O well, when you are retired and broke you make do with less. I miss Oreo. He had a very destinct personality. I keep hoping I'll open the door in the morning and he start meowing wanting to be fed. Fraid it's not going to happen though.It hit 103 last Wednesday and then a cool spell blew in Thursday and we got 1.2" of rain late that day and an even 1" Friday night. First decent moisture we've had in a year. It stayed cool until today but now it's back to summertime. I never paid much attention to the heat until last summer when it started kicking my butt. I never thought about your meat case trick but I may have to give it a shot.
