I am fortunate to in the very near future to be able to setup a new portable welding system.First off Ive been a "hobbist welder "at most for the last 20 years off and on and really respect alot of the opiions on this forum.Ive been in the construction bussiness and am looking to retire in 7 -10 years. We will retire in a rural area and I want to have a mobile welding bussiness. The idea is to do general farm/ fencing etc... I plan on finishing my certifications in the next 7 years.Im looking at either a miller bobcat or lincoln ranger type setup and want to have tig mig and stick capabilities and will probably buy used because thats the way i am, and dont want to end up with alot of equipment that wont really do what I need. What equipment setups would you recomend for a dream rig setup.I have a great victor torch setup but am looking for advice for the rest.
Reply:I guess a brand new diesel is out!  There are a few for sale by members here. Have you looked around the site real good? City of L.A. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore."Job 28:1,2Lincoln, Miller, Victor & ISV BibleDanny
Reply:For almost 20 years I used a 225 amp lincoln gas powered welder with an LN-25.  Tig was tricky, I had a hi freq box and no foot pedal.  Those and an SP100 (110v Mig) got me by for a long time.  Now I do a lot more welding and moved up to a 250 amp gas powered welder (shoulda gota 305).  Stick is a great way to work on the road, you are getting paid by the hour. Now Welding is 1/2 my income and I have some inverters, 2 portable wire feeders, Water cooled TIG torch by the end of the week.  Still have the 110 volt mig.Torches and a gas welder with 110 volt outlet will do a lot.  Arc gouge is a nice thing to have and not too expensive.  If you want to do aluminum on the road, it gets a little more involved, but the $s are worth it.  If you are going to do rural repair such as farm machinery, certs don't mean much.  The dream truck?  Look at my aviator.   Old ford with NEW Lincoln.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:David R Thanks for the info.thats the machine Ive had my eye on.
Reply:Found some great deals recently .We went on vacation to nor cal area and found a lincoln 8 with 550  hours on it and a t-30 12,5 hp air compressor and got both for $1050.00. The guy had a lincoln comander 500 and wanted only 6k for it with only 6 hours on it.I had to pass on the comander (wife wouldve shot me ) next day found a ln-25  alittle rough  but only $350.00.My little toyota was so full but I was happy.A couple of weeks ago I found a old parker vise that opens 18" and with the base  its the better part of 450 Lbs. Not sure what Ill do with it but for $103.00 it looks real cool holding my trailer down.
