Please critique....I finally got some more time to practice. Man this is harder than i thought. I was able to use 2 hands today, made it easier to steady the gun. I had a few issues with the nozzle getting clogged. Here are some pictures, I find its a real pain in the *** to get a good pic without the flash washing it out Millermatic 180
Reply:You are doing well, but need a steadier hand. Speed should be more consistant. Keep at it and you will have it. For the pics, turn the flash off and use good lighting from behing you.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yeah I find it real hard to keep the speed and torch position consistent I feel rushed like the wire is coming out to fast. Also seems like its hard to get in a position to see what is happeningI guess just more practice is needed.Millermatic 180

Reply:The top one looks decent. Practice more and clean your metal a tad bit more. Make sure it's clean, brite metal you can see. Any tiny bit of rust will cause havoc to the weldment.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:You're doing good just to be doing that good .. I kinda think that for practice it helps to spend a lot of time learning what the puddle looks like and how it reacts to this 'n that. If the bead is no good it won't matter whether it's straight or not. Steady is a must tho. Get a good heavy glove on your steady rest hand. When you feel it wrinkle it's too close ..
Reply:First Im a newbie at this as well but I can say your on the right track. From the looks of the weld your settings are very good. The top bead looks the best of all and the bottom one shows a little undercut on the edges which may mean not enough material deposited maybe you are going to fast slow down. Try a push from left to right or vise versa and add a stitch motion. Forward and then back repeat the words in your head for cadence and you will start to see a ripple in the puddle on the backstroke. Mig is not like stick where you have better visiblity. keep up the practice use the other senses as well like sound.
Reply:Hi, Try using 2 hands to hold the torch and lock your elbows into your gut for extra steadyness, then draw small circles with the torch in a forward motion or pushing motion.Cheers Rob |
