how much is a Miller Syncrowave 250 worth?

How much is a 15 year old Miller 250 Syncrowave 250 worth?  It is in nice condition and has relatively low hours for it's age.  I'm considering buying it instead of the the 4 in one Super160 China no name units (longevity, Riland, Everlast, etc) I was considering.  I am still a little scared about if something happens to it and I end up having nobody that can diagnose it.Thanks,  Appreciate the help.Adam

Reply:8 - 12 months ago they were going between 2400 - 2900 on ebay, everything but bottles. Haven't been watching since then.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:I just took it home for $1000 with a bottle.  It has alot of nice features.  The guy I bought it from is a professional welder.  He will come over to help me to set it up and get some basic instruction under my belt.  That alone is priceless.  I'm very excited!  I think I got a deal!

Reply:Tech experts should be along shortly...your arc control should function as a type of dig. Can't explain pulse but in applications where I've had to use it it was for better penetration. I'd rather control that myself with spray.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:As I understand it, Dig provides additonal short circuit amperage at low voltages to prevent the electrode from sticking to the work.According to my 2006 Synchrowave 200 Manual, Dig Control is initiated when Stick is selected. Percentages of Dig vary from 0 to 100%. When set at zero, the Dig current will provide no additional short-circuit amperage at low arc voltage. This would be similar to a standard stick machine with no Dig. Increasing the Dig percentage increases the short-circuit amperage at low arc voltages to help start and maintain an arc and prevent the electrode from sticking to the workpiece. The manual shows suggested settings for different rods. For example: For cellulose electrodes (6010, 6011) use a Dig setting of 50 to 80%.For Low hydrogen electrodes such as 7018, they recommend 25 to 35%.For other electrodes, they suggest using enough percentage to keep electrodes from stickng. --------------------As to pulse, well, it's just pulse.  My manual says that it switches the weld output between a high peak amperage and a low or background amperage at a controlled rate of pulses per second. This lowers the average welding amperage which can reduce heat input and improve weld puddle control. 1 to 2 pulses per second, for example, can improve the timing and amount of filler metal that are added to the weld puddle. Filler metal can be added to the weld puddle when the pulse output is on the high side of the cycle. Fast pulsing rates, according to the book, can be very helpful when welding without filler metal. As of now, I've only struck a few arcs on TIG with my air-cooled torch but I haven't tried pulse or Stick DIG yet. I'm still waiting on delivery of my new pump motor for refurbishing my vintage cooling circulator. The picture of that welder shows that it's in very good condition. It's got square wave balance and arc control so it will probably be pretty versatile.
