Reply:Either would be good but you are about to get  but the powers that be because you want to weld on "frames"  which I assume means vehicle frames.   1 your liability/business insurance will not cover it.   Unless you are a skilled welder with experience on welding to heat treated or hi tensile steel you are putting others at risk if you weld on a vehicle frame and don't know what you are doing.  which is obvious by your original question.     If you don't mean Frames in relation to anything that will travel the public highways then I would clarify your statement ASAP  OH,  welcome to the forum by the way     Lots of good advice here from very experienced career welders.  don't let me scare u away but just giving you fair warning if you choose not to heed the advice givenLast edited by soutthpaw; 10-19-2011 at 06:04 PM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Based on the small amount of info I've found on the unit, the Auto Arc XLT 185 seems to be a Hobart Handler 187. The 187 offers more voltage tap selections and more top end power the the Lincoln.  I've owned a Handler 187. I've also owned a Lincoln SP 175 Plus, and currently own a Lincoln PowerMIG 180C . Top end power wise both Lincoln's can't compete with the Handler 187. For anything critical in nature, on 1/4", I consider the 187  (Auto Arc 185) better option over the Lincoln 180.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:If they are both tapped machines, its a toss up.   The one that looks better or has the better gun is the one to buy.  I prefer red.  Just me.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Hobart introduced the Handler 187 in late October of 2006. Hobart still makes the 187. They call it the Handler 190 though, because they added circuitry to it for running a spool gun.For shielding gas, go with a bottle of 75% argon/ 25% CO².ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
