Not really a welding question, but I didn't really know of a better place to post this. I've got an old mobile home with very little worth saving other than the frame. I was thinking I might just see if the local FD wants to do a training exercise (AKA have fun burning ****), but I've held off on asking them out of fear the I beams would get warped. Is my fear justified?

Reply:They are actualy very good for use as structural steel fo shed roofs and things like that. as long as the web is held vertical they will hold more than a peice of wood of the same outside deminsions. Ive used them for perlings in a hay barn and they easy span 20 ft with snow load. Mac
Reply:you can sell the axles if you haven't already..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:I used some straight pieces to build a concrete form for a boat ramp, and left them in place after the pour. I welded the form together and backfilled to get the slab thickness I wanted (6"), I also welded most of the rebar ends to the form while installing it. This helped keep the rebar centered in the middle thickness of the slab @ 3".
Reply:I am playing around with 2 possible uses for the frame.1. roof beams. I am thinking 20-25' spans (40-50' with 1 center support) 2. trailer to haul empty inter-modal containers I am thinking of purchasing. The axles can't be worth much, because they use 5x5.5 wheels. Try finding those in anything but 15" for a 1/2 ton or a CJ. I've got an old logging trailer that uses the same bolt pattern, and I can't find heavy duty tires and wheels for it.maybe If I can stick 8 lug hubs on them....I'll have to look into that.I figured "just burn it" would be too easy. |
