This fine peice of art has just been erected in my local villege, Made by one the residents,Erected on the spot where the blacksmiths shop used to be in years gone by. Really nice to see something made from relevant materials to the subject. Reply:Now that is art I can appreciate.
Reply:I like that! Blacksmiths have my highest respect, even todays blacksmiths do some of the most amazing work I've seen.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches

Reply:I have a question for anyone who can answer it. Is that what a proper stand for an anvil looks like? Would a big chunk of lumber or stump do the job, or can I make one out of a steel frame and wood pad? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks ahead of time.City of L.A. Reply:If the anvil is out on dirt the stand can be a metal stand but on a slab you would want it to be wood. Mine is on a Liveoak stump. I've made several metal stands for local farriers as they preferr them to wood.
Reply:All the pictures I've seen of anvils have been on huge stumps.
Reply:Love it.

Reply:Under a spreading chestnut-treeThe village smithy stands; The smith, a mighty man is he,With large and sinewy hands; And the muscles of his brawny armsAre strong as iron bands. His hair is crisp, and black, and long,His face is like the tan;His brow is wet with honest sweat,He earns whate'er he can,And looks the whole world in the face,For he owes not any man.Week in, week out, from morn till night,You can hear his bellows blow; You can hear him swing his heavy sledge,With measured beat and slow,Like a sexton ringing the village bell,When the evening sun is low.And children coming home from schoolLook in at the open door; They love to see the flaming forge,And hear the bellows roar,And catch the burning sparks that flyLike chaff from a threshing-floor.He goes on Sunday to the church,And sits among his boys;He hears the parson pray and preach,He hears his daughter's voice,Singing in the village choir,And it makes his heart rejoice. It sounds to him like her mother's voice,Singing in Paradise! He needs must think of her once more,How in the grave she lies; And with his haul, rough hand he wipesA tear out of his eyes.Toiling,--rejoicing,--sorrowing,Onward through life he goes; Each morning sees some task begin,Each evening sees it closeSomething attempted, something done,Has earned a night's repose. Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy friend,For the lesson thou hast taught! Thus at the flaming forge of lifeOur fortunes must be wrought; Thus on its sounding anvil shapedEach burning deed and thought.HWLJoewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:Pretty cool- A lot of work went into that.    Even "cooler" would be if the parts were joined using traditional blacksmith "welding" techniques (i.e. bashing the red-hot components till they fused).Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.

Reply:Neat stuff!!!!!!!!!!Thanks GordonA little side note...................Not sure if I'm correct, just based on what I've read............The UK still maintains a flying force of the old planes used during the Second World WAr.I see pics of monuments in France utilizing old US tanks, artillery, etc... commemorating the war.I sure wish we had that reverance for history here.  It is, after all, why we're here."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:the french should  make statues of our old stuff thats over there.. without that stuff and the guys who died  in it the french would now be german...
