Hi I have a lincoln W/P 250 G9 PRO with an onan code on welder is 9421 that I bought new in 1990. It starts great and runs great and welds great also puts out 110/220 good . The problem Iam having is the amp gage is peged to the plus side when its running. I have checked the volts output at the battery and its at 18.9 v when its running and 12.7 when its not running any Ideas where to start looking to fix this problem? Thanks very much Bob
Reply:That pretty much has to be the voltage regulator. Not sure if that would be a separate box connected to the alternator or if it is part of the alternator, but you could look it up, or just look at the cables connected to the alternator. I would replace the regulator first, and ask questions later. There is a slight possibility of a short causing this, but the regulator is the place to start.Disclaimer: This assumes that the engine has a separate alternator to charge the battery, just like a car. My experience with motor-generator systems is that the starting system is separate from the main generator.RichardSculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge |
