Hello,I have hooked up my tig welder-HDA-300Thing seems to work good other than arc is hard to start in tig mode you almost have to be touching the work, but if you have a hot tungsten it starts right up! I have the high freq on start only dc straight polarity- brand new wp-20 torch checked all connections etc. I havent welded alum yet. but i would have to think it would act the same way which really wouldnt be good. Thanks fellas I hope someone has an idea.
Reply:Not much of an idea, but have you listened to things to see if the HF arc is going where it shouldn't? It should jump 1/4" no sweat. If it has an instruction manual, there are a set of points in the welder. I would check to make sure the gap is to spec.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Any chance you are using pure tungsten (green), or cheapo unknown tungsten?
Reply:No i bought a little assortment from weldcraft-2 percent thoriam it welds good just hard to start. maybe spark gap as david suggested ? I have yet to weld any aluminum but It would be extreme PIA to contaminate the tungsten all the time. Thanks again
Reply:Tungsten contamination could be a problem, make sure it is clean. Current and tungsten size also is a consideration. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. : |
