Just wondering, what's the reason behind the price difference between different flowmeters? For example, I see that Victor has "Premium", "Standard" and "Economy" flowmeters, for about $300, $150 and $100. But what do the higher priced versions do that the cheaper series won't? I'm looking to upgrade from the regulator that came with my TIG, and I'll put the old one onto my second tank for backpurging and such. Just wondering if there's good reason to spend more, for what seems to me to be essentially the same product? I feel like I'm probably missing somethingGive me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.
Reply:I don't really know (I use a $40 ebay Smith SELEC-O-GAS which works well enough for me) but I would think price may be a function of manufacturing "precision". A good flow meter is really more than just a hole bored into a piece of Lucite into which a ball is dropped and around which gas flows..And price to make is generally an exponential function of precision required.XMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
