Reply:Wow...great job!
Reply:Very nice work, not only the welding but also the preparation, which is the key to the clean and even welds offcourse. How do you cut the pipes/bends and how do you make them the exact length?
Reply:Amazing work.  Is this all laid out in 3-D CAD?
Reply:The tubing is all cut in horizontal bandsaw and a small coldsaw, I really want to upgrade and get some nicer saws. I machine different fixtures to hold the parts and fix them to the vise jaws to get 100% repeatable results. Same with the ovalized tube, we made all those and the eccentric oval to circle transitions, we machined a few different die sets and than press formed them. When you do this style tube work its necessary to have a good mill and lathe to make your fixtures. The flanges for the tdi downpipes, Aluminum hold down flanges, and the .5" Stainless corvette flanges, we machined on our cnc mill, the other flanges we sent out to get water jet to keep prices down.Pulser, only the flanges are drawn up, everything else is made as we go, we designed all the parts and used out initial samples to base our fixturing from.
Reply:Looks amazing as always Dave
Reply:Wow.......
Reply:very impressive.....its nice to see there are still people who take great pride in their work. got anything for an 86 xj6?
Reply:I'd love to see picts of a few of the saw jigs if possible. Don't realy care which, I'm just trying to get a general idea how you machined them.  Always looking for a better way to skin a cat.Beautiful work.

Hopefully better than nothin' can't give away all my tricks

Reply:Nice work and great looking welds.  That's a really interesting system you've built for the Corvette.  Wonder if the round-oval-round transitions will introduce any rasp?  Looks like a pair of e-cutouts would fit nicely.

The repetitive stuff pays way better, need to get more of that myself. The vette stuff is killer, some serious skills.

Reply:i like that lobster comment! haha true enough! i have been thinking about building a stainless exhaust for my car, thank goodness it would never be this complicated! what grade of stainless and how thick would you recommend for an exhaust system? also is it alright to go larger diameter with the pipe than the factory did? i dont know much about exhausts but i certainly can see you do which is why i would love a bit of advice!

Reply:Flanges are all 304ss except for the flanges with the threads, those are 6061t6.I avoid using 303 at all costs, my work is primarily in the automotive or sanitary industry, both which need good corrosion resistance. 303 also sucks to weld, but, it is much easier to machine.I couldn't tell you exactly how to build your exhaust from here, there are a million variables to consider, none of it is rocket science though, at least for a daily driver application. But if you kept it the same diameter or maybe slightly larger, you shouldn't have much for ill effects. .065" wall thickness is more than fine.

Reply:Hey- Amazing work!I am thinking about making my own SS exhaust for a 240sx - what is your approach to resonators? Should I just keep them in the stock location? How long? Any advice would be GREAT Those manifolds look amazing too- how do you go about designing them to get equal runner lengths?Do you also custom fab gaskets?I am assuming all of this is Tig welded, correct? Any reason why Mig would not work on an exhaust? Thanks in advance!
