Reply:GET RID OF THE Galv! Grind it all off before you weld. it will just mess up your weld and the fumes can kill ya. Once its all gone, weld as you would mild steel. That white smoke is really nasty. Learn from my exp instead of your own. The Zinc burns and the fumes are toxic. Clean off the galv at least 1/4" back from where you are welding. If you smell it or see white smoke, don't breath it.Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:assuming you mean galvanized then TIG is a bad choice.the galvanizing will burn off when welded giving rise to toxic fume (google 'metal fume fever') and contaminate the tungsten as it's vaporizedif you must use TIG then the galvanizing will need removing local to the weldwear respiratory protection

Reply:silicon-bronze will stick without cleaning off the galv. but the smoke is very toxic. wear an approved respirator. Or burn the galv. off with o/a torch then weld away with mild steel.
Reply:You have never been sick until you breathe the white smoke. John SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
