Hi all, it's been awhile since I last posted but I just put together a pig roaster for a friend of mine I thought some of you might be interested in.(and I know, my garage is still a mess!)Stand by, more to followSure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!
Reply:One more...Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!
Reply:Last but not least, 85 lbs of pig. I definitely have to upgrade to a chain and sprocket. We had to hang some weight off the motor so the belt wouldn't slip. But all worked out in the end.Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!
Reply:I'm hungry when do we eat! That looks a lot better than the bowl of cereal I'm eating.
Reply:add a sliding counter weight on a shaft perpendicular to the main rotating shaft. remove the belt, let the pig rotate freely so gravity will pull its center of gravity down, fix the counterweight (cw) slide shaft straight up. Rotate till cw shaft is horizontal and slide weight back and for till it balances the pig with no tendency to rotate. Lock it down here and now all the motor has to do is overcome friction, not lift the off-center pigs weight.
Reply:How long does it take to cook with the rotisserie?Do you stuff the cavity with anything? Was it good?
Reply:Great job. How about adding some guards around the motor and pulley. In a party situation, little ones ( and even big ones) can put their hand where it doesn't belong in a heart beat.
Reply:First one that i saw had some sort of cage that the pig went in, then as you cooked it you tightened something up that tightened the cage up.im sure there is people here that can enlighten you with more detail.it took them at least all day to cook a pig....but it was worth it.Think theirs had a lid! but dont have to rely on my decaying memoryG
Reply:Thanks for all the good ideas. This was the first one I ever did so I'm on a learning curve. I didn't cook the pig myself, but it takes about one hour per ten pounds of pig and then you use a meat thermometer and make sure the inside temp is 170 or so. So 85 lbs took a little longer than 8.5 hrs to cook and only about an hour to make it disappear!Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!! |
