I need a 220 volt mig welder it is going to be a millermatic 175 or a lincoln which i don't have a model number for yet.I need opinion good or badsuggestions PLEASEThank YouYour Friendlakehunter
Reply:I have 175 MM Miller that's 5 or 6 yrs old on it's 5th( I think) 10 lb roll of solid wire. So far it doesn't owe me a dime!! I've removed the liner 3 times to clean it and removed the cabinet a couple of times to blow the dust out. So far I'm very pleased with it. I've built many different projects out of 1 1/2" x .060" salvaged square tube. I have welded non-critical 3/8" beveled and preheated w/ it cranked all the way up. I bought it new and my grandson is the only other person to use it besides me. Reply:Why not take a look at the MM211? It runs on the same 220V as the 175, but has more than 30 Amps more output than the 175 for a little more money. You can also run it off 120 if you need to use it where 220 is not available. It is the same size unit as the 175 also, just a little heavier, but I'm sure your going to build a cart for either one like most everyone else does that has one. Being a higher output machine it will probably be several years longer before you decide to upgrade, if at all. It's better to get more machine than you think you need now, than to upgrade to more machine later. A lot of the guys on here that have MM211 seem to be very happy with it, and I plan on getting one if I can find someone that wants to buy my MM140. It's a good little machine itself, but I would like the extra output when I need it without having to fire up the Bobcat for higher amperage/thicker material.
