I could have used these while making the porta-potty (http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=31088)..... but at least I have some for now.The welding doesn't look as good as everyone elses, but at least they hold.  I did these with the mini-press brake I made recenty:  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=31740I figured since I can't use clamps on my welding table I might as well build some clamps I can temporarily weld to it when building projects. Reply:that's a good idea...that's a sharp looking table.
Reply:Cool idea!  Think I'll make me a few...(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Good idea!!! A lot of guys take an old C-clamp that's been sprung too far, cut the "C" in half and weld/ heavy tack to table or whatever you're using for a fulcrum.  Another little trick I used a lot on the gravel refineries was weld a 3/4"or larger flat washer on edge to whatever needed to be lifted/ pulled into place and run a spud bar thru the washer to use as the lever.                             MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:nice work
Reply:Why can't you use regular clamps with your table?
Reply:Nice job,  One question though.. Do you know the proper way to weld them to the table?? Not can you weld? How to actually weld them to the table. Reply:The clamps are a good idea.  Often I need a clamp in a spot not suitable for other clamps. Is the main body of the clamp 3/8"????Nice welding table.
Reply:Originally Posted by jdh239I was just going to tack weld them on.... maybe 4 tacks, one for each corner of the part that touches the table (wasn't going to be really cranking on them).  After I am done I will just cut the tack with my 4" angle grinder (cutting blade), and then grind them off with my other 4" angle grinder (grinding disc).
Reply:Another (inexpensive) option:Deep Throat C-Clamps.
Reply:That's a good idea JDH! I've seen "standoff" pusher clamps, but never completely shop built. If you don't mind, I'm going to pilfer your idea!... and add my own twist.I'll watch for some heavier scrap "Z" or  "L" pieces, and then try to build some clamps.Except maybe I'll put the nut on the bottom, and just use a wrench to tighten, for the heavier push capacity I'm after.Gclamp is right about the location where  just a small tack will hold an incredible amount of push; and still be easy to remove. Reply:Originally Posted by gclampI don't know how to do all that bs graphics people do, or I would draw you a pic. If You were to place a decent sized good quality tac in the center of the bottom raidius, 1/2 inch long or so. That would hold just about any thing you can clamp with those on your table. To remove from table. just push twards the tac. will pop right off. will save tons of time. Practice and experience will teach you how much tac you need for what ever you are building.

Reply:Very cool.  I have the same problem with my table and keep thinking that I should cut a large square hole in the middle to allow me to clamp things near the center.  I like your idea though.
Reply:This is what I makeDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:I have made the 'dogs' like tozzi built above, but I will build some of the others. Very nice. That welding table is nice too. I built a very basic one in the middle of another project because I needed a good size flat surface to weld on. My garage is small so I put pneumatic wheels to roll it outside in the gravel when I need space.
Reply:we use the same style as tozz's at my work. Only the ones we use are alot biggerYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Well, I had the opportunity to use one of my new clamps today.  It worked great!  I followed your advice as to where to place the weld and it held strong.  Sure enough it was easy to take off too!    Attached Images
Reply:hi/lo clamps are one of those things that until you see them you never think of them, then you will never work with out them.insert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with itA friend of mine built a new table and did something very similar to this. He made several different sizes of clamps very much like jdh has made, his were made from 1 1/2 x 1/2. the flat that mates to the table top has one 1/2" hole drilled in it. He drilled and tapped his table on a 6" grid pattern with 1/2" holes.  Anytime he needs to clamp somthing he just uses a 1/2" bolt to fasten the clamp to the table. No cutting tacks off and grinding the table back smooth. The 6" grid works for him, the grid size of course could be changed to meet individuals needs.
Reply:And once you have a grid, you can use simple bolts or the vise-grip clamps guys use with drill presses:
Reply:dog and wedge that mother all night long baby!!!!!!!!but I have to admit I love me some half clamps for fit up in the fieldkeep up the good workall I want in my life are....... white castle cheese burgers
Reply:Great idea!  I had to copy those tonight.
