As you can see by the pic, My friend has some issues with his lift. There might be other issues with weldments and design issues also. Should be able to pass a UT and be able to read steel and and load stresses. This is not a job for a beginner. Is there any one in Vegas that thinks they can handle this? This is not a quick fix, nor would he want a slam bam........ Certification and product liability insurance a must!   Let me know. thanx  gclamp Attached ImagesLincoln Ranger 8                        Lincoln 175                          Drill pressLincoln 225 mig                            Plasma                              8 ft brake        52" jump shear

Reply:Did he use it while hooked to the truck and without the stabilizer down?
Reply:looks like a bad piece from the factory to me. To thin a tubing in my opinion. Ive seen these before and always wondered about them but i'm no engineer so i can't say much.Millermatic DVIMillermatic 251Older buzz box Cheap 120 welder

Reply:As a 'manlift' is that thing going to have to be run through a shop approved to work on those kind of things? The hitch might be exempt maybe, or if he isn't a contractor maybe. Food for thought.
Reply:We have several manlifts we maintain at my company (JLG, Genie, Skyjack etc.). Those of us that actually work on them are sent to a manlift inspection class every 2 years, during which we review OSHA and ANSI requirements. Somewhere in those documents is a section pertaining to welding repairs (I'm not at work today, so I don't have the books in front of me). As I recall, any welding has to be done by a facility approved by the manufacturer. There are 3 of us, NASA certified welders in my shop, and we don't touch these machines when it comes to weld repairs. The company doesn't want to assume liability if something goes wrong. They would rather let the local approved vendor make the weld repairs, even if they're not up to OUR standards. That way if there is a failure the lawyers can go after the vendor instead of us.That being said, it appears as though the broken part is outside of the "man-rated" section of the machine, judging by the location of the stabilizer. I don't know if OSHA or ANSI would make any exception in this case, but common sense should dictate they would. I wouldn't feel bad about riding in it (or towing it) if I had repaired it myself, once I knew what the base metal was, and what the manufacturer recommends for a filler material and pre or post weld treatment.Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)

Reply:You know, I've never been there, but from what I've heard it's not all that hard to find a "pro" in Vegas.
Reply:FoxHole, I don't think that's the kind of "professional" he's got in mind ....... and you can't hardly walk down the street without running into a dozen or so.

Reply:Hey guys, thanx for the responses. My friend bought this out of Canada. Apparently it was a company demo model. Serial number 000001. So he bought the first piece they made along with all the mistakes. MANY 10,000 dollars later. The good thing is, they are sending him a new tongue section, but he has to get it installed. I will be passing along the names you gave me karlgabel, thanks.Lincoln Ranger 8                        Lincoln 175                          Drill pressLincoln 225 mig                            Plasma                              8 ft brake        52" jump shear
