this is my dryer out let that im thinking about useing for that welder. its a 3 prong. the breaker is a 50amp. heres a pic. will it work thankshttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...r27/outlet.jpg
Reply:I can't speak for the HF stuff, but all brand name welders will set up for the 6-50P and 6-50R configuration.
Reply:Many welders (and other 220V equipment) will come without the plug, since the manufacturer has no idea what plug you have, and there is many different format options.  This means you have to wire it yourself.  A quick trip to Home Depot can supply you with a cord with plug installed for $20-30 (which unfortionately, it will only come with a 4-6' cord) or a plug for $30. Specifically, that is a 10-50P that you are looking for (6-50P has a round prong).  Sometimes the equipment doesn't even come with a cord, in which case I have found it cheaper (and better) to buy a 220V extendion cord and lop off the receptical end to wire to the machine.  For my welder, this was the way to go since a 10' extendon cord with L6-30P plugs cost me $29 (and just the plug itself would have cost me $20).  This gave me a nice molded plug rather then the bolt together variety.  This is not a good option in your case since an extension cord with a 50 amp plug is made out of 6 AWG which is VERY expensive.I have bought here with good results, YMMV (But at $42, it is pretty pricey for their 10-50P):http://www.stayonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=4746Is the plug in your garage, or are you going to be welding in the laundary room?Tim
Reply:well i was planning on just using the tig welder occonasionl and the plug is right near my laundryroom window. so i planned on just opening the window, run the cord thorough plug it in and then weld on my porch. ill make a little welding both to block the wind from blowing the sheilding gas. (if its even windy out when i weld). it should work i just wanted to know if the hf welder plug would fit in mine.
