Im in welding classes at school and only have a few days to finish my welds... can anyone give pointers on vertical oxy-fuel? i have to do butt, lap, t, and outside corner joints. Thanks for any help
Reply:If you are talking about oxy/acetylene we can help but oxy/fuel no. you cannot "WELD" with oxy/fuel, you can braze and silver solder, anything but melt the base material. Acetylene, like shielding in Mig, covers the molton puddle to protect it from the atmosphere. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :

Reply:Make sure that you have a key hole, wait for the puddle to "flutter" and add the rod. Like all welding procedures it's puddle recognition and practice. Good luck!
Reply:Can you tig Vertical, if so. it will be almost the same. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:i have not tried anything else vertical yet... in order to move on to the mig tig and stick classes i have to pass this one first... in order to do that i have to pass butt, lap, t, and outside corner joints and do them flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead... i have passed flat and horizontal now need the other 2
Reply:Have you done forehand and backhand (leftward and rightward) flat? What is the thickness and the material you want to vertical up or down weld?
Reply:Just a personal opinion, but the easiest way for me on mild steel is leftward (rod proceeds the torch) vertical up. Bend the filler rod in a V so that you canhold it with your left hand above the torch as you work your way up. Remember to keep your angles correct and keep the end of the rod enveloped just outside the neutral flame-all the basic stuff.Rightward OA is best left for more advanced welders because the flame supports the puddle and manipulation of the rod takes a lot of practice.
Reply:ive done forehand not backhand, and its 3/16''... i got my butt finished today(not very pretty but done) and i have one lap and T(also not very pretty but they pass)
Reply:If you learn to weld vertical up with a torch, you will be a really good weldor no matter what process. keep at it. If you need to slow down, then you need to turn the heat down too. keep at it, you will get it. Show us Pics!DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor. |
