having problems ,changed liner problem less frequent.using 045 dualshield wire knurled wheels miller equip. tweco gun.may need better method of wheel tension adjustment.thanks in advance for any replies.
Reply:loosen the tension all the way.  Set the wire speed for slow, adjust the tension so it just pushes the wire.  If you push the gun against something not grounded  it should stop and the wheels need to slip.  Fine tune from there.  Sometimes the next size bigger tip will help if you are running it real hot.  With knurled rolls, you need only a little tension.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Don't use dual shield myself , all our Mig is ally. I was wondering if you may not be better off with ally rollers ie the "U" shaped grooved ones rather than a "V" shaped for flux core?Any thoughts from those who use flux core?BrettA good guess is better than a bad measurement
Reply:I have a set of drive rolls that say .045 C .   They are not knurled and its the only way I can push ESAB 7100 ultra.    I have also pinched the wire.  If the rolls are too tight, and the wire does happen to stick, the rolls flatten the wire in that one spot.  When the flat spot gets to the contact tip, it sticks, the rolls flatten another piece.........Today I ran 1/16" NR 211MP with knurled rolls and had Zero problems all day.DavidDavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:In my opinon stay away from the knureld rollers. It kida files the wire and clogs the liner sometimes very fast. One company I was with we used U gruve rollers and 25' tweco guns on .045 wire and when the liner would start draging we would install knurled rollers on a break and get another 2 or 3 days out of the gun. Then we would rebuild the gun with a new liner and fix it all up nice and pretty again. I use V groov on my MM330P with flux core all the time and no trouble. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:Knurled feed rolls have been recommended for Cored wire, by almost every Mfg., since they were invented.  John       It only needs a little tension on the wire to feed.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Trust me it makes small shavings. There is no need to introduce that into your liner if you dont need to. My V groov wheels make no shavings and do not slip at all. I set the rollers at 2 out 6 not tight at all. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:I only use knurled rollers if I can't get consistent feed out of smooth rollers.  And even then it's only a single knurled with he rest being smooth.Back off on the tension for the birds nesting.  Like David R said, the rolls need to slip when the wire burns into the tip.  The feeder end of the liner should almost touch the drive rolls.
