I'm planning to mount a diesel powered welder on a trailer. The welder has been mounted on an axle previously by the look of it. It was mounted with the radiator at the back of the trailer.Does anyone have any reasons to support this orientation? Looking at the trailer rigs that I've found here, it seems to me that most seem to be mounted with the radiator at the front of the trailer. i.e. closest to the towing vehicle. This would seem more practical.$200 welder meets $80 trailer (watch out 4Shorts!)Last edited by Tractapac; 09-20-2009 at 08:00 AM."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:I've seen welders mounted both ways. I prefer the radiator mounted to the back of the trailer (facing away from your truck). I don't wont my truck or any one else to kick a rock or something else into the radiator.
Reply:I've had my welder mounted with the radiator facing the hitch for years, and never had a problem. The way I have my leads set up, it makes it easier to roll them up. My trailer is a little small (3500lb axle) for my rig, so I'm looking for a 6'X10' tandem axle. Here's a couple of pics. Attached Images
Reply:The radiator front mounting is more convenient to use. Dials and cable at the back for ease of use. Plus if your pulling up to a job your more than likely going to back the welder up to it. Makes for shorter cable runs and trips to adjust the dials.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches. |
