Hey everyone, haven't been on in a while. I am on a new job and feel like I might be getting the old non-lube if you know what I mean.mo Can any of you give me some ball park figures as to per diem rates for a full time company employee that is asked to work on an out of town job. I am normally in the shop or on day trip jobs that put me back in the shop by door locking time, but this is an out of towner that requires motel time. I just need something to base my demands on since the company wants to supply the room and give us "eating" money. Thanks to anyone taking their time to help me on this.Last edited by mooseye; 12-04-2011 at 01:29 PM.SA200,Ranger8,Trailblazer251NT,MM250,Dayton225AC,T  D-XL75,SpoolMate3545SGA100C,HF-15-1  RFCS-14 When I stick it, it stays stuck!
Reply:it should be enough tocover reasonable meals in a reasonable restaurant/ im guessing maybe $25-$30 a day ...
Reply:Thanks but I am looking more for what people are actually getting on out of town jobs where the company is not providing the room. Sorry, should have been more specific. I have work a lot of jobs and the norm is to give you so much a day or hour and what you do with it is your business as long as you show up for work.SA200,Ranger8,Trailblazer251NT,MM250,Dayton225AC,T  D-XL75,SpoolMate3545SGA100C,HF-15-1  RFCS-14 When I stick it, it stays stuck!

Reply:I looked at stuff online but it is some federal crap that I don't comprehend but it says 144 a day for this area. I think 100 to 120 is more in line and yes an employee should not be made to suffer bad conditions on the road, especially when they are normally shop or home every night help. I feel like my boss is trying to make money at my expense in this case. I would still like to hear some genuine quotes as to what some of you are getting or have recentlyLast edited by mooseye; 12-04-2011 at 01:53 PM.SA200,Ranger8,Trailblazer251NT,MM250,Dayton225AC,T  D-XL75,SpoolMate3545SGA100C,HF-15-1  RFCS-14 When I stick it, it stays stuck!
Reply:$100 a day for LOA in the norm, plus an out of town premium on your wage. Any less and you're get taking advantage of.
Reply:I'm a construction pipe welder and our company gives us 80.00 a day per diem with a hotel card to get a room. I'm not sure what region you are working in but that's about it down south

Reply:The federal govt keeps per diem rates for almost everywhere US and overseas ( OCONUS).http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/21287Don't go above as it is difficult to write off above that rate for tax purposes. Going lower hurts yourself as some expenses come out of your pocket. Those figures on the GSA schedule are updated regularly and are pretty accurate. Another item of value on this schedule is the cost per mile of travel, go above it and you justify to the IRS at the end of the year, which is doable if the costs are real, just creates additional paperwork for yourself if your audited.
Reply:My co pays $100 a day plus $0.50 a mile round trip. They seem not to mind if someone hitches a ride in a company truck they still pay mileage but I take my own vehicle to have my own freedom. Also we double up two to a room if we can to save even more money.
Reply:Employers should provide a credit card for these incurred expenses. Three daily meal totals approximately $100.00 per day plus hotel. Hotel rooms would be between $85.00 - $125.00 per day. This is solely dependent on the market / area you are traveling to. If your employer finds this unreasonable, time to hit the bricks.Good luck,Yakdung
Reply:$25 per meal limit if I'm on the road, they pay for everything. If I'm in my own vehicle it's also $0.555/mile reimbursement. No extra pay for being on the road as it's what I signed up for.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH
Reply:Where I used to work it was $75 per employee per day for lodging, $25 for food, on some of our jobs. On others we got $9 per hour for per diem.  (usually worked out to around $80)All of our per diem rates were built into any contract signed. Single occupancy on all rooms.
Reply:The company i work for covers the motel (usually a nice one, stayed in a hampton last week @ $119/night)they give us $30/ day And you are guaranteed 14 hrs/dayAaron
Reply:Originally Posted by Bob the WelderBy weldbead; An employee deserves better than MickyD's.  At least $75 per day bare minimum.  $100 per day is not unrealistic by any means.  That is for food and lodging and costs do vary from region to region so could be more, could be less.  Are you driving a company vehicle?  If not, the rate should be even higher especially if this is not a regular requirement of the job.  You should not have to stay in a flea bag no-tell motel and eat at a fast food place just because you are on the road.   If your employer respects you, he will treat you accordingly.
Reply:I'm not a welder but working out of town is working out of town no matter how you look at it. I've worked countless hours 'out of town' over the years. Too many to count. For eight years I didn't even have a town so to speak. Worked on the road. I've worked under just about every arrangement you can think of. Still today I'll work several weeks a year out of town. Most times several days to a week straight. The arrangement I like best is straight expenses. I carry a company credit card and turn in an expense sheet for small items and/or or items the credit card won't work for. Other guys get an advance and do an expense sheet only. They lose the card by playing games. I stay in a reasonable motel, sometimes sh!tholes are all that's available, sometimes the only rooms available are $150.00 a day. I don't eat lobster everyday while I'm at home so I don't eat lobster every day on the road. The job comes 1st, meals are what they are. Sometimes I go 14 hours or more straight with coffee, pepsi and a front seat full of cookies and all sorts of other crap snacks. Sometimes I'll have a $50.00 dollar supper, sometimes I'll do burger king because I don't feel like pissing away an hour at a restaraunt. You turn in a ticket for a $6.00 hamburger, a bag of chips, a candy bar and two pepsis they know you're not living the high life. They know you're tired just want to get back to the room. I don't like long evenings in a motel so I work. I work hard and long, don't try and make money off my expenses, I don't splurge and I don't hold back either. I am what I am and regular as a heart beat. They know that and make their plans based on that. 40 some years working professional, 5 different employers and I've never been fired or laid off. I've seen a lot of silly axxed pissing matches over this working out of town business. Most of them were definitely two sided. You can work for the sh!ttiest boss in the world as long as you have an understanding and they can count on you to be consistant. You work hard to keep the boss in business and out from under the maginifiying glass and he'll take care of you on the road. Go playing a bunch of silly games that bring the spotlight on either one of you and you'll find yourself not being part of any plans. Put your had down, be honest, be consistant, work hard, don't screw your boss and don't let your boss screw you and you'l' find yourself workin when they've sent the rest down the road. On the road and out of town jobs are a good opportunity for the big OT. Big money makes momma happy. Life ain't some fair little kiddy garden class. It's a long hard road. Believe it or not you and your boss/employer are traveling the same road. You both gotta make a living.Last edited by Sandy; 12-04-2011 at 11:40 PM."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:/thanks for all the replys. All seem like fair advice. We settled on $80 a day flat and we can do as we please with it, including driving back home every night if we wish. I don't think I will be going that route but good that they decieded that it is our money to do with as we see fit.SA200,Ranger8,Trailblazer251NT,MM250,Dayton225AC,T  D-XL75,SpoolMate3545SGA100C,HF-15-1  RFCS-14 When I stick it, it stays stuck!
