I have a 1976 Airco 300 ac/dc and was reading the manual, you can change from full wave to half wave. Could anyone tell me why/when you would need to do this?
Reply:I can't imagine when you would want half wave DC; that's 1/2 the power and pulsing at 30 cycles/sec - with the arc out for /120 sec in each 1/60 sec. ???This doesn't make much sense to me as every effort is made to smooth the arc.e.g. The norm is full wave rectification followed by a massive choke to smooth out the 120 cycle DC and to stabilize the arc.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:I enjoy finding old ways of achieving some of the so called "new" tech found on todays units. Albeit the ideas didnt work as well as they do today but the thought was there.....A young green pipe welder asked an old salt one day...How can I make the weld on the bottom of the pipe look like the top.......The old salt replied....Screw up the top......
Reply:Papa I was thinking the same thing, I may just have to switch it over and find out.Not knowing anything about it though I don't want to find out that switching it turns on the self destruct |
