Reply:Does that thing reach in and bolt to the frame then? Parts of the rusted piece you worked on look like they had been previously assembled ? Looks like some rusty beads on there? It's obviously a temporary arrangement to get from point A to B so I guess it'll get the job done. Tow bars on the front just aren't seen much anymore with vehicles getting so big and all, plus there's a lot of different degrees of towability with the wide range of trannies and such. Just looking at the whole thing, factory parts and all, stem to stern, it sort of looks iffy to me. Lot of points of failure built into it for such a heavy rig.

Reply:Must be the way the light is in the pic. Looked like a couple of the welds were older and rusted. Must not be.
Reply:doesn't the hitch go on the other end? wow, you can tow that humongous truck with just 8 bolts?  is that safe?  (i know ZERO, NOTHING, NADDA about towing, thats why i ask, please enlighten me)  that truck must be, what? 6000lbs?  thats like 750lbs each bolt!!
Reply:I would say that he is using a 1/2" bolt at the max, the break strength of a grade 8 1/2" bold is 21,300 lbs, times that by 8 and it aint going any where you could hang that truck and shake it with 8 1/2" bolts in it
Reply:I think it looks allright.A doggone bit stronger than the towbar attached to it.  I do not like that towbar at all.  It may pull the truck, but I wonder if it's stout enough to hold it under extreme conditions.  Like a rear end collision.  I always worry about the towed vehicle, trailer or truck, riding over me if hit from behind.  Towbar I made weighs around 70 some poundsA few gussets would have added a bit (reinforcement, and more lineal inches of weld), but it should be fine.  Nice job"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Real quick question............Just how high is the towing ball on the tow vehicle??  Have to be awful high to match, and hold a straight line with the bracket.  Any great deviation from a straight angle can mean trouble.  Hitches like to come unattached at extreme angles.  Most couplers, other than top of the line Bulldogs are kinda bad that way"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
