I have $700 into this machine and she is sweet!  Iv'e been told some of the old pro's prefer these to the newer one's.   I like it a lot and had fun fixin it up.  I know the color is not correct but it's still a nice blue. Reply:Looks like you got it going on. That color looks pretty close, not bad at all. Some lights(brake & turn signal) and fenders and your all set. A place for your torch bottles would come in handy, too. Does it weld as good as it looks?
Reply:Bistineau, She welds like a dream!  I plan on adding all the extras that you mentioned at sometime!I want to get the tanks and torch put on next. Reply:If you don't already have one, add a swing down trailer tongue jack, preferably with a wheel. Then you can level it up when needed, and also roll it around by hand to where you want it w/o mechanical assist. That's going to be a bear to back into position with a truck, I bet you can't even see it over the tailgate on your truck. Make your uprights high enough so you can at least tell it's still back there in the rearview(and level while towing). I saw some guys that WERE going duck hunting, pulling a 14' jonboat on a small wheel trailer behind a 1 ton dually. Something happened to the left wheel and they never knew it. The tire must have gone flat or wheel came off, or whatever. when I saw them after they had stopped they had already ground down about half the spindle on the axle(ouch). I'm sure they could not see the little boat behind the truck in the rearview and it sure wasn't slowing that 1 ton any. Oh yeah, I meant to tell you to put a spare tire mount on it too. Hate to have to leave that rig on the side of the road while you go to get a tire fixed or replaced. Might come back only to find the spot on the roadside where you left it.Last edited by Bistineau; 12-07-2011 at 02:22 PM.
Reply:Hey Bistineau, It does have jack with wheel and that makes it easy to move around!Right now I have to drop the gate while backing! You have me scared enough with that tale that I'm going to put a couple of whips on her so I can keep track when pulling!  I do have a spare but like you said My Dodge ram 3500 wouldn't know if she was falling apart behind, so the spare would be useless huh!  The whips will fix that potential problem! Thanks for looking out for me!!!!!!AEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and  Do all C-4 band saw ,  Always adding.
Reply:I can see my little trailer just fine over the tailgate of my S-10, but even backing it with that short wheel base isn't easy. The trailer is short from coupler to axle, so alot of pulling forward to straighten out, easier to get it kinda close then position by hand or usually with the lawnmower. Behind my Cheyenne 2500, forget about it, I won't even hook it to the ball on that truck. If I take it anywhere with the 3/4 ton, I hoist it up and set it in the bed. Fits just fine with the tongue pointed @ the tailgate, makes the truck ride a little smoother too. Won't come out w/o rolling the truck, not like that's the prescribed way of doing it or anything.

Reply:JB, Mine started out being neglected for 10 + yrs! New carb, she ran great but no sparky! Went inside and cleaned up, still no sparky! New rheostat and some diodes, light my fire!  Then I felt like I wanted to make it look like it feels, young again. LOL  I wish I took before pix but really did not think about it at the time.  Your's has great potential. Love the twin stacks, chrome those babies, I can already  see it!  Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!If my pipe ever lets go I'm going for the stacks!Bistineau, I have been pulling trailers for ever!  This is the shortest , the longest was 53ft !   The longer they are the easier they back!AEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and  Do all C-4 band saw ,  Always adding.
Reply:If you do the chrome twin stacks, go ahead and get the air filter cover chromed too.No doubt on the trailer backing, long truck/short trailer that's what I meant when I said it is a bear to back up. Even when you can see it, it is tooooo ez to jack knife. That's one reason mine has never been hitched to my 3/4 ton. Extended cab/long bed no way, besides as high as the ball is off the ground the back of the trailer would be dragging
Reply:Now that you have a new chain hoist you can load that thing strait in the back of the dodge right on its axles and close the tailgate.I towed my little Sa-250 behind my boom truck once.   what a giant PITA.   I had to back out of the job site and i couldn't see the welder PERIOD,    On that little trailer i could have jackknifed behind the the truck and i still wouldn't have seen it.I just boomed out and picked it off the ground by the lifting lug and backed up like it wasn't there.     Pulled out into the street and properly stowed the boom.    otherwise i would have probably just pushed that thing sideways for a couple hundred yards in reverse.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:JB, 137' That's a long M-F!!!!  Throw some paint on, get the stacks chromed in NV.The crime rate is climbing fast so you might want to park all your stuff in the shop! Throw up a fence and turn the dogs loose! I see westauctions has a sale coming up in Oroville .  If I see something I like would you be willing to inspect it for me?  I could compensate you for the trouble.AEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and  Do all C-4 band saw ,  Always adding.

Reply:Originally Posted by jbmprodsmine runs great and welds even better. last time i tried the tig unit on it it gave me a little arc starting problem though. it sits outside but i do keep it covered. cleaned up with chromed stacks would make some one want to steal it lol. not many chrome shops left in northern Ca. as for the pulling trailers, when i was heavy hauling i pulled a 13 axle Cozad quite often. hooked to my KW i was 137 feet long. talk about a bear to back.
