Hi everyone. Brand new here. I have no idea how to weld other than what I have read at this point. Looking to get started with oxy/fuel at this point. I have a Victor Journeyman II kit that I got at a pawn shop. I am curious what tanks will be compatible with that setup. I don't need anything big at all, so the smallest that will work probably. At this point I have no idea. I will probably hit the supply house and just rent until I can learn and figure out what I need for now. Thanks and hi.Daniel 5:23
Reply:If you are planning on doing any cutting you will need something bigger than what I call pony tanks. The small bottles for the carry caddies. If you buy small bottle you should be able to trade up in size and get full tank value on your trade ins. That said it's most economical to get the largest tanks you can because most of the fill price is for the fill not the gas. If your budget is tight go with a smaller bottle and trade up at fill time.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:Howdy Baddarryl, Tailshaft56 took the words out of my mouth!Your tanks will be readily available locally. You need one oxygen and one fuel gas cylinder. As far as size goes; unless you need portability, try to buy larger cylinders. Five times the gas volume, is barely twice the price.Good Luck
Reply:Might be a good idea to have your regulators checked out before you use them, I am assuming they are second hand. Also, take them with you when you go to purchase tanks because you might need an adapter depending on size of tank. It will be a waste of money to purchase small tanks if you plan on doing any cutting. You say "oxy/fuel", again assuming you have a cutting head is it for use with propane or acetylene.Take you entire kit to the supply store and ask questions.
