I have found performance records that indicate a welder was qualified with the same test plate to the 4130 procedure and the XX18 procedures. I cannot seem to lcoate info for 4130 to verify if this is ok. We are welding on ASTM A148 castings, 135/125 class, in the normalized state. There will be later PWHT which is why we are using the 4130 as it can handle the PWHT. Should these have been a separate test?
Reply:All low & med alloy constructional steels are usually welded with low hydrogen procedures. The difference is pre-heat, post-heat & PWHT. The performance record indicates the person can correctly produce sound welds using low hydrogen process.Matt |
