What could and couldn't I weld with an XMT 300 DC CC welder? Is it possible to welding aluminum reasonably well without AC if I scare up an optional HF unit?
Reply:You can stick weld and DC TIG on steel and stainless with that machine. I have heard that it is possible to TIG weld aluminum with DC, but it is not the conventional way to TIG aluminum and I have not tried it. You would not need high frequency for that though, although it is useful to help start the weld. High frequency is only needed on aluminum when using AC because each time the electricity changes direction, the arc wants to extinguish and the high frequency is there to re-start the arc each time the current changes direction. AC = alternating current. If you want to AC TIG aluminum, look at a Dynasty or Syncrowave TIG machine, both have AC output.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:need helium gas for dc tig -alum
Reply:AC is used for TIG welding aluminum because the arc has a self-cleaning action. Now don't take that wrong because it has to be spotless clean anyway. I have used DC Tig on heavier aluminum with good success. With the 304 HF is unnecessary because it has lift start Tig. My advice would be to read your operators manual. I did.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist. |
