This is the result of 4 rods of 1/8 6011 on some 1/4 steel. For size reference, the piece is 6" wide. I just quickly went over them with a knotted brush on my grinder. I realize they aren't completely clean. Before I ran the beads I did go over the steel with a flap disc and got it mostly clean. The top bead was my last rod and I had it set at 90 amps. The second from bottom with the large crater at the end was set at 105 amps. The second picture is a closer up of the top bead. Please critique.
Reply:First time out..Looks good!Higher amp one is better..All in favor say "I"...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:You're well on the road to doing good welding with beads like that. Keep working with those 6011's until you get better, then try a small box of 6013's. A slightly shallower welding rod by the book but exterior variables can make it just as strong but a hell of a lot easier to weld and make pretty beads with. 6013 rods have never failed me one time. Overhead welds with an AC crackerbox using 6013's. Done it more than once. I'm sure the book say's you can't. You can. Clean a good joint and get familiar with 6013's and see if ya don't see what I mean.
Reply:Looking good, especially for first time.
Reply:looks good .. I'll agree with zap... Keep burning them rods...
Reply:Lay one bead right up against the last so that the edge of the second bead is real close to the center of the first bead. A chunk of pipe is great for training you to make multiple, straight beads. For instance...I'm not saying for MY beads, but you WILL get better with enough practice!!!City of L.A.
