Sorry, I haven't been turning in my "reports" Well here's one, and when I get caught up a little I'll try to post some others, maybe even the Halloween party too. I guess I didn't get a decent "before" picture, but this was a quick repair to the support post of a lift truck's rain canopy, Cousin Joe and I ganged up on it.The original mount had been repaired a bunch of times, and I decided that it was time for a fresh start.I thinned down the original welded mount pad, so that it could be chiseled off, and then Cousin Joe finished up with a little grinding. Attachment 41467Meanwhile I found a piece of heavy tube that was a snug fit over the support. I clamped the tube in the chop-saw with a spacer under it, so that the finished cut would be at an angle matching the support tube's mounting angle.Attachment 41469I beveled the tube's ID for clearance, because...Meanwhile impatient Cousin Joe had found a solid round that matched the support's ID and drove it inside the support. So we decided to use both. I slipped my just-cut tube over the support, and held it up out of the way with a clamp, while Cousin Joe did the honors for the inner solid piece, using 1/8" 7018:Attachment 41468After the inner piece was welded we dropped the heavy DOM tube into place.Soapstone "H" marked the high side of the angled cut:Attachment 41470Cousin Joe's 7018 again.Last edited by denrep; 10-19-2010 at 11:43 PM.
Reply:So it's tubed inside and outside? That should hold it.
Reply:That's the heaviest piece of tube I've ever seen.
Reply:Oh great, there goes someone's job-security.Now how will it ever need fixin' again? I just wonder sometimes if people actually think and feel this way...BTW,nice fix, cousin Joe welds good!
