Reply:dont forget clean the metal first.... mig and dirty metal dont mix...lol flux core is a little more forgiving which is your set up but you should still clean it if you have the ability.... keep it up its like riding a bikeLast edited by usmcgremlin; 02-04-2008 at 06:44 PM.Reason: forgot somthing63' Lincoln SA200 2008 miller trailblazer 302fibre-metal pipelinermiller camo BWEand all the guns and ammo a growin boy needs
Reply:Looks like you have a few spots where you burned though a bit...you might want to run a little lower heat setting. Fluxcore has more dig, so you are more likely to punch through than with gas at the same settings. Where the slag is cleared off, the welds look pretty ok. You seem to have a handle on keeping the bead in a line. That's often a problem when starting off.One thing you need to do is clean the slag off before starting the next bead. It will make things much better. It looks like you had a good bit of slag and flux left on the metal when you did your subsequent beads. Fluxcore is forgiving, but...Grab a cheap grinder and stick a wire cup or wire wheel on it. It will power through the flux in no time. I got a $10 Harbor Freight grinder that I dedicated to flux removal.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Looks like you're off to a good start. As others have mentioned, keep the weld area clean. Even a few of swipes with a wire brush between running beads will do ok. Hard to see in the pics but you might want to clean it off a bit more under the clamp so it makes really good contact.
