Nothing special, just some hack and slash quick repairs for my buddy at V&S GalvanizingAs you can see the building is huge, and that is only half of itI had to add "wings" to the rack holders 1" plate 24"X36" with 3/4" wedge anchors, and some 8"X8"X1/2" angles to the topI love the Hobart Excel Arc 71 wire, not bad considering the amount of crap on the existing plate I had to burn throughThen we added some extra support on the columns Rings cut a little larger, to clear the existing weld, and add more.NextDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Here are the old beat up racks that they hang stuff from to be dipped, pretty beatJust torch out the old bars, with an inch of zinc on them and put the new ones in.Note the air chisel to make life easier, don't worry that the new bars have a bow to them, I will be replacing again soon. This is how galvy starts life, lots of little bars of zincDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:That all looks pretty good. Is that Excel Arc 71 a dual shield? I'm guessing you used the air chisel to shave off as much of the old zinc globs as you could before starting the flare works.
Reply:Yup, dual shield it is, I run it with 100%CO2 and it runs like a dream.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Tozzi, that is nice wire. I've used it with 75/25, and had real good results. When you get dialed on it, it goes uphill like crazy. I was using it to add some wear plate, and just building up material, and had slag peel up inch and a half wide, and a foot long on some uphill weaves.
Reply:20# CO2 bottles are the way to go, small and light. I like the way CO2 burns hotter, and the priceDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ." |
