My name is jacob and, my question is how do i build an amp control or choke for a homemade welder its puting out like 160 amps and id like not to blow so many holes lol thanks jacrigger
Reply:You don't bother. For the amount of money it would cost to buy a single transformer, you can offer someone on Craigslist 1/2 the amount and get a decent enough welder. From the buzzing noise modern inverter power supplies make, I would suggest they are running a high frequency chopper circuit to control things.... and banks of big transistors to handle the current. I suspect that the start and stop nature of welding and the relatively long cable runs (inductance) that you need to design to handle quite a bit of surges in power demand and feedback.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
