I know all the best wood-burning pizza ovens use clay, brick and mud but this is a welding forum!  I've got some ideas to use a vertical smoker as a basis for the design.  I'd like it to be no taller than 4ft, able to cook two 16" pizzas simultaneously, and roll it in and out of the garage.  We really enjoy making our own pizzas at home, and I think a mobile wood burning pizza oven cart would be plain cool!
Reply:If you cook pizzas vertically, how do you plan to keep the cheese, pepperoni, and other toppings from sliding off? I've never seen pizza cooked in any position other than horizontal for this reason.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
Reply:That's real helpful.A friend of mine runs a Pizza shop. He wants to make a portable pizza over for catering events and shows.   He has the ovens, but they are huge. He is looking for the same type thing. I suppose, a porable brick oven could be made suitable for one or two pizzas at a time.  But finding a small oven, unless it is one of those blast ovens one a moving rack, it is difficult to find.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Some people called my powdercoating oven a huge pizza oven.  In this picture, it's not finished obviously.  It's 8 feet tall.
Reply:We have a wood fired pizza oven at work, it can only handle five 16 " pies at a time. It has the cementatious (sp) floor and domed ceiling. The steel floor would be to hot & hard to control, brick would most likely wear itself out while traveling, friction being the blame. It might be cost prohibitive for a working, money making scheme. However my Pop made one that would cook one pie, or a standing rib roast, as well as a dozen pancakes at a time, it was stationary with a brick base, the rest was fabb'd by him a friend. Wish I had a picture of it? Merry Christmas Everyone,  Bruce The Welding ChefLincoln Weld-Pack 3200 NORWELD StickStanford Hill Farm

Reply:This is my brick oven at home .. the trick to pizza is high heat , steam in there too for a crispier crust and where the pizza sits should be cementitious as in white fire brick .. the walls can be metal .. you need 700 degrees or more for just a few minutes .. mine cook in 3 to 4 minutes DONE.. You mentioned using a Smoker/ cylindrical shape , problem with that is the one on top will never cook as quick or well as the one  on the bottom ..     .        www.traditionaloven.com Attached ImagesLast edited by crucible100; 12-15-2009 at 12:49 AM.everything is temporary
