I have and older lincoln idealarc tig 250/250. Problem is the gas will not stop flowing not matter what I do. I had the circuit board sent out and rebuilt and it still spews gas. Any suggestions would be much appreciatred. Thanks, Mike
Reply:You may have a seized solenoid on your gas valve.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Yes, sounds like a stuck solenoid to me as well.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:any idea where I can get one at a good price on a solenoid? They told me at lincoln that is wasn't the solenoid if It wetoff when the power went off...or was it the other way around...ahhh! now I can't remember.Last edited by ironsharpensiron; 08-23-2011 at 10:09 PM.
Reply:the solenoid is what is called a normally closed one(normal meaning in the box) so it needs power to open. if the valve was frozen closed ,  it would stay closed when the signal to open was sent...your valve sounds frozen open..if you have enough skills with an electric meter, see if there is a signal to the valve..
Reply:Tweco MIG gun adapter kits often come with a gas solenoid and can be found cheap on Ebay.If you are using a gas-cooled torch you can just get one with the valve in the torch head. Cheap and reliable.
Reply:I assume that you're using a foot pedal, or at least a torch switch. Are you sure that it is actually turning off?

Reply:sorry was busy for a few days. Yes I have a foot pedal. The gas even comes out when it is diconnected.        My torch is water cooled.  The solenoid is in the unit itself. I will have to find some time to take it apart and see whats going on in there. Been swamped with work.  Thank you for your help. will keep u posted.
Reply:Sorry to bring up an old thread but I still have not been able to repair this problem. I replaced the solenoid and I am still having trouble. When I disconnect the wires to it the valve closes. This tells me there is a signal to the valve is...the wrong signal. now what?Last edited by ironsharpensiron; 01-12-2012 at 06:17 PM.
Reply:When the machine powers up, does the gas valve open?If it just sticks on when you lift off the pedal, perhaps its more a timing issue.  Try adjusting the post flow timer and see if it ever turns off. However, you have already replaced the circuit board and the solenoid.  I suspect you are way more money into than if you just brought it to a shop. One reason I say take it to a shop is because your taking the approach "replace parts until its fixed"  This is expensive and usually also means that electrical troubleshooting is not your specialty.  You will be money ahead if you find someone that knows what they are doing.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:No it never turns off unless the power goes off. Thanks. Not what I was hoping for but thanks. ouch!  The truth hurts!
Reply:Thank you con_fuse9! It seems I overlooked the post flow timer. Turned it down and the gas is now shutting off. Now I have a new problem....my high frequency is not working! ....
