Hello, I just purchased a Lincoln Harris Port-A-Torch from HD for $240.  I just mention the price because Ithought it was an exceptional deal.  I have not welded in 30years since high school so I am new to welding and I need advice.  I bought is to work on my car but first I have some plumbing to do.  I want to sweat 3/4" copper.  What tip is recommended?  It cam with a #3 tip but Someone has suggested just using just the acetylene with a Harris air/acetylene adapter #4301600.  What do you experts suggest?  Thank you for your time.

Reply:Originally Posted by gnm109Welcome to the forum. All you need for sweating copper tubing would be a standard propane torch, some flux and some solder. If copper tubing was the only reason you purchased that unit, I suggest that you return it and get a propane torch and accessories. My 2 cents.
Reply:Thanks for the replies.  I purchased the unit for several reasons, 1.) to work on my car, cutting and heating, I had terrible trouble removing hubs2.) As a hobby to learn more about OAW.3.) I have a tractor and could use it in repairs4.) I thought I could use an Air-Acetylene adapter harris Part #4301600 for the copper plumbing,  but I am having trouble finding it.Propane just seems like it takes along time to sweat a joint.  Maybe just because I don't do it all the time.Anyway, if anybody has suggestions on the Air-Acetylene adapter harris Part #4301600 for use with the port a torch, it would be appreciated.  Thanks.
Reply:Just an FYI... Lowes sells the same Port-A-Torch but it includes the Air-Acetylene adapter harris Part #4301600 for use with the port a torch and an HS#4 air acetylene tip.  This kit is a $50 value.  Lowes cost is $264.
Reply:Honestly I doubt you will get too much work done using those small bottles, the torch itself should work pretty well, but if you're like me you will be wanting larger bottles fast.
