generator/lincoln350pro

anyone ever tried to run the 350 pro off of a 10000 watt generator? wanting to try and pulse wiith it. does the gen have enough power? thanks for the help and patience. g
Reply:Should be able to run it fine. 10000 watts is about 45 amps at 220V.My Photos on Flickr
Reply:Look on the name plate on the 350 and see how many amps it draws, convert 10,000 watts into amperes and that is your answer. I have forgotten the conversion formula for this. Just a guess is around 85 amps.

Reply:Yes, it "might" work.  Sometimes with generators the power is not as clean when you start reaching the upper limits of it's output.  I have a bobcat that I tried running a powermig 255 off of, and it would not work.  However I had another identical machine that would run it fine.  it should not have been overloading either generator, and that was the answer I got from my LWS.  All I can say is you will have to try it and see.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Not at full or rated power.  The listed input current needed at 230V input is 85A for 350A output (60% duty cycle) and 69A for 300A output (100% duty cycle).  That's a 20kw generator.  Maybe not even at lower output levels, depending on the inrush current and the circuit boards, etc, in the welder.The newer inverter machine are more efficient than older transformer machines, which would often need more generator input power than you would think.  IIRC, older buzzboxes pretty much needed enough generator as the full output called for, even if you only wanted to run at lower output currents.But the newer 'electronic' machines may need less input power to fire up, but they also may need 'cleaner' input power to fire up.  As Hammack said.Why don't you just call or email Lincoln, get the answer about running a V350 on a generator and then post back here with the info?  216-481-8100 Go to the Lincoln website for the email-a-question page  http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/LEE...ts/CNMain.aspxLast edited by MoonRise; 03-12-2008 at 04:06 PM.Reason: more info

Reply:I would think it will run it at least in the lower power settings.   I was quite surprised when I hooked up my Dialarc HF (recommended to be on a 125 amp breaker) to my Bobcat 250 (10,000 watts, 44 amps @ 240v) and I was able to stick weld with the Dialarc at the highest current setting, 310 amps.   Now I was only using 1/8" rod so I doubt I was actually welding at that high of current, but the rods did burn down right quick and dug deep into the metal so there was a fair amount of current there.   I was expecting to pop the breaker on the Bobcat once I got over 200 amps on the Dialarc, but it didn't happen.  I kept cranking it up and running rods and I was thinking, when is that Bobcat goin to quit?  But it didn't, it just kept on going.   It may have been a different story if I had tried to tig weld with it it instead of stick welding.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:The Lincoln manual will tell you if the 10,000 watt generator is suitable for that machine.  I would definitely see what they say as the inverters electronics are sensitive to insufficient and excessive voltages, and those blown boards are very expensive.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship.
