They're.......................GREENI like to harp on this repeatedlyShoot your paint "wet" using a slow thinner/reducer.  I like 100% mineral spirits.  It flashes slowly and leaves a long wet edge.  Easy to blend in without overspray marks.I thin it to the consistence of very runny milk, almost dripping.  It takes more care to prevent runs and sags, but the finish is well worth it once you've established your technique.First coat is a dust coat to establish a "tooth" for the next coats to grab onto.  Follow with other coats one on top of the other with just enough time between coats to allow the paint to flash to a light tacky feel.  Probably no more than 5 minutes between coats.  If you start at one end, it's a good chance that you can go right back to the beginning and start laying on the second coat when finished with first coat.I don't bother to sand the nibs off the primer on a job like this.  I just shoot when primed.  Cows don't seem to mindPic One........right after sprayingPic Two.........the panels I finished last night that have dried.  Notice the same wet glossOther pics..........well....more pics Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:What kind and brand of paint and primer do you use .thanks in advance.
Reply:Cropped and enlarged one of the pics to show how I set the panels up to dry.  The bolts provide a knife edge surface for the panels to rest on with minimal paint damage. When everything is cured I'll touch up the areas masked by the chain during painting, and the little marks left by the boltsThe former cheap panels these are replacing in last pics Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:The old panels look like they bend quite easilyWould you consider getting them galvinized or is it not worth the effort or $ for these type of panels?Last edited by LarryO; 12-22-2009 at 08:00 PM.

Reply:BTW...........this is 3 very wet MIST  coats, not heavy high build coats.  NOrmally I put on 4 coats, but this doesn't warrant it, and I was getting antsy to finish. The key to a good build and gloss is multiple light coats sprayed wet."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:nice job samm, it looks like my bed hehehe, just different color
Reply:Looks nice Samm.  I bought my first gun this past summer, took some getting used to but once you learn how to adjust the pressure and thin the paint it sure beats the brush and roller or even spray bombs.  I bought a HVLP conversion gun that hooks up to my compressor and worked great. As for thinning I use mineral spirits and also a product called penetrol for oil base and flotrol for latex.  The penetrol and flotrol slow down the drying time and levels the paint pretty good.

Reply:Good work. I hope those Cows appreciate that nice paint job.
Reply:Nice job on the paint,Samm. I use Binks guns now. I once bought a Harbor Freight touchup gun that was a knockoff of the Binks because I thought I needed one and the funds weren't available for the Binks. Holes in the spray nozzle were off center but didn't seem to affect anything as I could do good work with it. Down the road I managed to purchase the Binks touchup gun to go with my big Binks #18 gun. I really couldn't tell any difference from the HF cheapie. Maybe my painting skills weren't good enough to differentate between the two.
