well, i was in harbor freight the other day and saw a sander that i wanted but i really dont have the extra $130 to buy one, so i decided to build one.  after the wiring confusion earlier today, it now works like a champ.  i was afraid the motor might be too weak, but i have no problems with it slowing down under a load.  only thing i could add is maybe some weight to the bottom of the stand i built for it today because it wants to walk a little.  anyways, here it is...

Reply:That's pretty neat.  What did you use for the disc and how did you mount it to the motor?  Any problems with it spinning out of balance at all?
Reply:Add a nice adjustable table for it and you are all set..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:Looks great.  What was the motor originally mounted on?
Reply:Looks very good.  Once again, necessity (and some good Scottish frugality) is the mother of invention.      Regarding your other post about wiring it, the black and white wires will power it as you already know, but you should have it grounded.  Not only for the possibility that you could be electrocuted if one of the wires comes unattached and energizes the metal case, but to eliminate the static electricity that will build up when it's running.  Ever see a Van de Graaf generator? To ground it, use a 3 prong power cord and wire the bare copper (or green) wire onto the metal case.  Or if it's already wired up the way you want it, a quick-and-dirty way is to just run a copper wire from the metal frame/case to a ground on the nearest wall outlet.  A 3-wire replacement power cord can be picked up at just about any hardware store for just a few dollars.Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.
