Hey guy's, i have a millermatic 135 and want to weld aluminium without spending a bunch of money for a tig or a much bigger mig. Do you have any suggestions on spool guns that will work with my machine that wont set me back the $500 dollars or so for the miller spool gun. Thanks for your reply's.
Reply:Not only will you need the $500 sg you will need a $400 controler to run it......looks like time to up grade or go for a TIG.Mike

Reply:Dav I wouldn't try al with anything less than a 220 v machine with the exception of a Passport Plus.... I love my HH210 and it was $1300 out the door with the SG........the MM180 and spoolmatic 100 isn't much less and from others that have the HH210 and MM210 they will reach for the Hobart first if the job is within the Handlers limits.....a "good" starter TIG is hard to tell ya as some could be fine with an econotig vs some would be better to start out with a dyn 200.......

Reply:Thanks Mike, looks like i need to look into a new tool. I got the millermatic for welding up a harbor freight trailer we were making into a teardrop trailer. Never finished the project after the welding part, maybe someday we can get back to it. I've never done any tig welding but mig is to fun.
Reply:The controller is only about $250 new (SGA100) and will work with the 3035 spool gun, which you can pick up used for about $300 if you are patient and keep a look-out.If you want a new mig with a spool gun, Miller has the Millermatic 180 that now accepts a Spoolmate 100 gun as a direct-connect without a controller and the gun only cost about $200 when purchased seperately. Reply:One other idea I forgot is HTP has some deals on spool guns that can connect to various welders. They have a model that connect to Millermatics and another that can connect to any constant-voltage dc welding power supply that comes with it's own controller. Their prices are very reasonable. Reply:Doesn't Miller make Hobart or vice versa. I like my miller machine and would want to stay with a miller brand, i'm just quirky that way.
