The wife was wanting clean house today so she ran me out around 9:30 this morning. I guess I felt productive so I rounded up some parts and built a set of reels for my spare machine (Trailblazer 302). It is on a skid with the torch outfit, and can be hauled on the little trailer or winched up on one of the flatbeds, or it will fit in the bed of a pickup. I have a set just like these on my "dedicated rig" with the SA-200. I used 3" pipe for the drums and 1/4" plate cut into 9" circles for the ends. The shaft is 1" grade 8 allthread rod, and I had some threaded shaft collars to hold it all togather. The shaft stays still and the drums rotate on 1" sealed ball bearings. I used some Delrin sleeves to insulate the reels from everything else. They will hold about 115' of 1/0 cable. I left room for a third reel on the bottom for a dedicated lead to run the 12 RC feeder..............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Your wife wanted to clean and she ran you out of the house? Does she have a sister?Nice job on the reels
Reply:Thanks, no sister by the way!.............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I like those reels, and would like to know how long the 3" pipe drum is,again good job.On your winch truck is it set for a gin pole,I thought I could see where the poles are resting on the bed of the truck.Good job and thanks for sharing it.
Reply:Coyote, any problems with those delrin sleeves heating up at higher amps? I don't know anything about them or where to get them. I 've been looking for some ideas for some reels. Looks like yours are tough enough provided the sleeves stand up to heat and abuse. Nice job in my opinion.

Reply:Looks good and simple to boot. How do you attach the lead to get power from the all thread. I see the hook up on the end to the machine but didn't notice how you hooked the lead to the all thread on the reel.OK I reread your first post and paid allittle better attention, just not looking at pics.lolThe current goes to the all thread, then to the bearings, then to the reel and lead. I know a few on here have done this and say they don't have aproblem with the bearings getting trashed by the current, but it goes against everyhting I've been taught, lol. I'm going to have to make a set for my portable rig, time to start looking for work on logging equipment. Hate to be out and rolling around in the snow and mud and working on abused equipment, but need to make some money, as fitter work is really slow in my local.Last edited by UP BRETT; 01-04-2010 at 08:29 AM.Brett B & B Fabrication and Welding Inc.Spalding, MI.
