Hobart - Weld IT retail division sells a rod called Nomacast at TSC. The 1 -800Weld-It people only had the info written on the packaging and knew nothing more. They referred me to Hobart Brothers (industrial division) however those guys had never heard of it and said the Weld-It boys get their stuff from elsewhere - not from Hobart Brothers. So anyone know where this thing comes from and any info other than the packaging "For various grades of cast iron, this electrode provides an excellent, non-machinable base pass for subsequent nickel alloy repairs on contaminated cast iron. AC/DC (electrode positive preferred)."http://www.hobartwelders.com/product...ty-electrodes/Seems as though Forney sells a Nomacast rod but can't get any info from them either.
Reply:I saw the normalcast, but only buy Ni55 or Ni99. I know what I am getting. I think they are all about the same price.Never tried the normalcast. Guess I should. DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I use the stuff. I use it when I do ornamental cast iron panels that I don't want to fall on anybody. I has always worked well for me. I read it can be used in multipass cast welding that is capped with Ni rod.
Reply:cast is a pain to weld as it is. I personally would stick with the nickel rods. I know what they are and they work when used properly.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:The 55 and 99 rods specify a preheating but not the normacast. That is an interesting aspect to these that would be useful. |
