Welding Project help

I have a few guys that are learning to weld.  they need practice with Oxy fuel cutting,  using the band saw,  the iron worker and fitting parts together.  they know all the welding joints and have practiced them in different positions. now i am looking for a "part" they can build and use maybe in there welding stations,  or some type of usefull part that can be used around the shop.  Maybe like a torch / rod holder to tack on to the side of there table, just anything besides something that ends up in the scrap bin.any ideas would be great.Thanks,JD
Reply:Well do you have any welding carts for around the shop.? A stand for a grinder. Reply:Toolbox, adjustable pipe or roller supports, set of forge tongs for carrying hot metal, coat rack, grinder rack, welding rod holders, lead holders/wraps, circle cutter for O/A torch, heavy duty saw horses...Bigger projects: Shop press, English wheel, bead roller, press brake, engine hoist, ladder rack for a pickup, brush gaurds, side steps/rock sliders,.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Is this what your looking for?Top is a simple vice to hold flat stock horizontally (I use for holding knife blanks while grinding/polishing ).  Basically 4 threaded rods welded to a piece of 1/4 flat stock with a top piece held down by the wing nuts. The  'tang' at the bottom is clamped in my regular vice.  The insides are padded with computer mouse pad material which provides both padding and great holding ability - plus the stuff is DURABLE.Bottom is my MIG torch holder - mounts on any bench in my shop.Last edited by reefera4m; 01-12-2010 at 11:30 PM.
