Other day wanted to fill in a small Aluminum face ...Around 70 amps .... using foot pedal... Argon ... 3/32 Tungsten red ... sharpened....ac highI started the arc , then next thing i know its burning my tungsten away and leaving a bunch of white stuff. I couldn't even get the arc started. I kept messing up the tungsten bad... i tried like 5 times. Whats going on? I can't figure it out.
Reply:P/M sent.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:First guess; did you hear the argon flow start before the arc blew up your tungsten? Although, I've never done this. 9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250

Reply:Yea thats what i though , i did check to see if the gas was coming out.but i couldn't tell , not sure what it should sound like. I did put my hand there to see if there was anything , but i couldn't feel it if was got a nice shock out of it though.Any other ways of testing if the gas is coming out?

Reply:Put the torch next to your ear and press the pedal once and you should hear the argon flow...Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Hold your torch away from anything. Hit the pedal. It should hisssss, just like loosening the valve core on an aired up tire. 9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250

Reply:hit the pedal. THEN put it up to your ear.You should be able to hear the postflow of the argon
Reply:I figured it out!!!Sounds stupid , but the really heavy welding table wheel was on the gas hose! I didn't see it before because its in the corner , not my fault i didn't move the table. I finally found that was the problem after disconnecting all the hoses. Now the argon comes out , i can feel it. Welded a alum block i needed to fix... no white stuff , i had a bit of contamination i guess from the tungsten and filler.
