Got curious,  about this welder my uncle had and I got to use and now have as he passed away in 92 and it was left to my mom, his sister and now that she passed away almost 2 years ago I have it,  anybody else ever run into or even use one of these from around 1972 or so?I have only run into one other person that I work with that had one given to him, other than that never seen another.I forget now who made them for them but it seems to work pretty good for my needs.I posted it in the thread about the little winch support I made, so thought I would ask in a seperate thread about the machine itself.
Reply:My buddy's got one like that in his shop. He picked it up some where about 3 or 4 years ago. It's a bit newer that the AC craftsman I started out with. Usually I bring over my mig and use that rather than the stick machine, but it's like most older transformer stick machines. There's really not all that much that can go wong with them, so they keep going and going....No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I have a craftsman that looks allot like that one, it has the dual  plugs for amp choice andthe dial on top.I have been using mine allot lately.it works great i picked it up used this past summer for $75 the only issue is unless i reallycrank down on the amp dial lock (so much so i think it is going to break) the dial will move when the machine is running.this is a picture i found on the web of exactly the same model i was too lazy to go out and take a picture of mine  this morning. Reply:My grandfather has one that is older than those but looks similar. I'll get a picture the next time I am out there. The receipt is in the owners manual, he bought it in '64. I hope to have it one day.
Reply:I've got one like romancandle. Be careful about cranking down on that knob too much, the threads it screws in to were aluminum on mine and stripped out. I fixed that by putting a nut in it so now the threads are steel.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
Reply:Partsman,I had one back in the early '70s.  Got it as a Christmas present from my dad (I think he actually bought it for himself).  I used it to build a single axle light-weight trailer out of 1" square tube.  Worked great.  I used some electrodes that Sears sold called "contact rods".  You didn't have to manually hold a gap...just strike the arc and hold the rod onto the workpiece.  The welds looked really good and the trailer never broke..I guess we could call that successful.Came with some sort of DC rectifier(?)...supposed to stabilize the arc(?)...add-on box that attached to the side of the welder.  I never used it.It also had a "TIG" torch..well, sort of anyway.  You clamped it in the electrode holder and hooked up this clear plastic tube to the gas supply.  Never used it either.Miller 211 w/ spool gunMiller Dynasty 200DXLongevity 60i IGBT plasmaO/A w/ crappy chinese torch/gaugesSouth Bend 10K latheGrizzly 4029 10x54 millGrizzly 7x12 hor bandsawangle grnders, bench grnder, bench belt sndr7.5 hp 80gal cmprsor
