Hey guys, I'm pretty new here, I introduced myself over in the introduction section. Got a chance to get the TIG welder out today. I have a flatbed trailer that had a damaged ramp. The support that is supposed to sit on the ground while the ramp is down, had broken the weld. I fixed that, and did some improvement work on the ramp. All of this work could have easily been done with the MIG, but considering I just got a TIG, I decided I would practice that process. Bash away, I'm always up for learningThis one could have used a little more heat (and steadier hand) on the right side. I didn't have anything to rest my arm on for this one.Last edited by dragr8cer; 01-24-2010 at 06:59 PM.Lincoln Precision TIG 225Hobart Handler 175
Reply:Looks good to me. Like you. I have to have something to rest my hand on. I don't know how some of those guys do it, holding the rod and torch in mid-air and in all positions. I guess that's why they are called "PROS".
Reply:I can do it without support but a steady rest for your arm is nice. I have been known to clamp on an extra piece of short angle or just use a welding clamp to steady my arm or hand against.Miller Syncrowave 200
Reply:Thanks for the input guys. If I could get more experience holding the torch with my left hand and feeding with my right (I'm right handed) I would be better off. I was just happy to be out in the shop welding today.Lincoln Precision TIG 225Hobart Handler 175
Reply:I have nerve damage on either the fifth, or sixth vertebrae and I will have an involuntary twitch in my right shoulder at some arm positions. Usually when making a flat butt weld. I have to hold my elbows against my waist, and sorta move my body to do some of the rod movement.I guess you adapt."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:i know its not a tig but i know what you mean. Im a newby and am still getting comfortable with positioning my arms to get a steady weld. ive held the torch like a pencil to get to an odd place. those tig welds look very pretty.Realgear 140 MIGMore DeWalt tools that I prolly needDIY 160 amp 40 OCV MOT Stick Welder
