Most people here probably cannot relate to this but there are a few locals;I have just seen a Kemppi MasterTIG MLS 2300 for sale for $2000! http://www.woodworkforums.com/f160/advice-tig-145709/This is THE TIG of choice here (apologies Miller & Lincoln fans but this IS in a different league as far as I am concerned) and for that price it is an absolute steal!!If the guy in the forum does not buy it, I'll drive 8 hours to get there and buy it myself. I could probably resell it for three time that price in a flash.__________________________________________________  _I could not care less where anything is made. I don't fall for the myth that locally made is 'better'. If I think something is good value for ME, I'll buy it. That said, I do like European quality
Reply:Australia is a strange place to try to buy equipment, everything seems to be about 3x the price the rest of the world pays for stuff (chainsaws and welders in particular) Its something I really dont understand. If the machine looks like a great deal I would jump on it quick
Reply:Keep in mind most other countries run a 'VAT' tax vs. US a sales tax.1) The VAT is included in the price.2) Every stage of manufacturing, shipping etc. pays a bit of that VAT (and passes the cost to the next person.   So a $100 item is picked up from manufacturer and costs $110 (10% VAT).  Shipping costs $10, so add $11 to the price (another 10%) etc.In the US, same item is $100 + $10 and either no tax (if mail ordered out of state) or maybe 5-6%.  So $121 (with 10% vat) vs. $116Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:That price in british pounds on the web site converts to AU$3,535. Even that would be very cheap.Generally, prices of goods are much higher in Australia but that's from an outsiders perspective. My living standard here is higher than both Europe and the US (I have lived in both places).__________________________________________________  _I could not care less where anything is made.
